Just make sure your thumb is on the proper side.

I imagine speakers, in their infancy, were sized all over the place.
Over time, certain useful sizes emerged and became standards.
It begs the question as to whether an 11" speaker adds any value over a 10 or 12?
11" speakers are only to be used with amps that go to 11.

Don't forget the EV 30W, yes 30 inches in diameter.

Precision Devices has/had a 24inch that Turbosound used.

A local sound company here in MD has one of those EV drivers in the shop, very interesting. The cone is made of Styrofoam. EV wanted to buy it back as a musem/demo piece.

A museum would probably be the best place for a 2.5" voice coil 60 watt styrofoam 30" driver with excursion less than many current 3" drivers ;^).

30 years ago I had a copy of the EV 30W cut sheet and plans for the roughly (IIRC) 90 cu ft, 350+ lbs cabinet.  I recall a warning in the plans to the effect of "make sure you can move the assembled cabinet."  Fitting through common pedestrian doors was a no-go and the weight was formidable for most builders.

Also from memory, I recall a magazine article about a venue that built a huge, under-stage horn for a pair of 30W.  Was supposed to be *very* impressive with the horn.  Someone with better recall than me might be able find pics.

I still have that set of plans! They were part of the complete set of plans for the all the EV speakers of that era.

Which, as I heard, suffered the effects of gravity over time, taking the voice coil off center.

And let's not forget the 6" x 9" oval, which "dominated" the PA market during Acoustic's "reign" at FOH ;) .

I've got old Acoustic catalogs that have the "horn loaded" 6x9s.  The big systems had 8 columns for lots of combing.

I remember when they used to give out plans.  I still have some.

I "think" JBL did as well

They were both in the transducer business, more than the cabinet business.

Now that is totally flip flopped

I'm shocked, so no one here can say these driver sizers are due to any acoustic property? It's just easier for the production lines?

I have a set of JBL plans as well and their speaker building guide line papers written by Drew Daniels.
Built my double 15 "subs" years ago using their tuning and port suggestions.
