Cable tester recommendation
« on: November 24, 2021, 01:43:02 PM »

I need a new cable tester. Mine is so old that it doesn't have Speakon. And that's what I needed a few weeks ago. Would have saved me some time.

Just need audio. I have other testers/tracers for network connections.

Hosa CBT-500 does everything, well almost.

Looks good. The continuity function is very handy. And not expensive.

Thanks

John,

Go to PyleUSA.com and look at the PCT-40.  It does Everything.  I think I actually ordered mine from Parts Express.  Happy testing.

I second that motion - and also got mine from P-E. Having both NL4 and NL8 connectors was an upgrade from my previous generic tester.

You can spend more and get automatic scanning, but the results will be the same.

Think I'm leaning towards the Hosa one as the USB-A to B tester will come in handy. The Pyle only has A-A. And I might need the BNC for non audio cables around the hotel.

They are very similar, I ordered the Hosa for the same reason.

The Hosa is just about an all in one box.
If you need to test cables where you can't get both ends together the RAT Sniffers are great.

As long as you need to test only DC continuity for the BNC cables; this unit can not test impedance or performance at any frequency other than 0Hz.

If you don't find that you need the USB or NL8 you should check out the dbx CT3.  It will split up like a Rat sniffer for cable runs where you can't have both ends together.
