Not sure that yet another power connector that isn't compatible with anything is what we need or that these are any good, but they look interesting and I was unaware of them. They're called SmartPlug and made for RV and marine shore-power. Another tool in the kit, for what it's worth. --Frank

UL and Intertek basically apply the same IEC standards to testing and inspection and ONGOING inspection. Either one should be acceptable.

If you want a better connector, just use an industry-standard Pin and Sleeve (also called CeeForm), like all of Europe does.

Quite, we have over 700 of a mix of 16A and 32A blue single phase, plus there are probably larger/3 phase ones in the showbar. I know at least some of Europe just uses a waterproof socket that accepts a standard 16A plug (i.e. Schuko or the French equivalent) for caravans, though that isn't a good option in the UK due to the lower rating of our plugs.

Admittedly the most common ones that do not have a locking ring are only IP44 rated so should be installed so they face down for maximum weather protection, but they are the ones we use and we don't have many issues with them.

Personally the only new connector that has really made sense are the PowerCON as they fill a particular niche of a compact, high current connector that locks in place, these other new connectors have no real point other than to lock people in to a non-standard connector.

OK, you have a "better" connection at the RV.
What about the other end of your patch cord?
Same old,  same old.
The post gets plugged into a heck of a lot more times than your RV.

True-but I really don't care if the post catches fire and burns-the RV on the other hand?

I am not voting for this-I haven't really seen an issue IF you recognize a receptacle wearing out-which these will wear out as well.

The main "better design" feature appears to be contact in the receptacle, and there's no reason that same design couldn't be used in a standard TT-30 or 14-50 form factor -- or even the twist-locks, for that matter.

Proprietary just ensures that you won't be able to repair it in the field.
