Part of the issue may be the way pipe sizes are measured, i.e. 1.25" pipe is 1.66" actual OD, 1.5" pipe is 1.90" actual OD, then there is 2" OD truss tube.
If your truss tubing is 1.5" actual OD, then their Versi-Clamp seems to be the only one that will work with that small of an OD without using shims.

I saw those but at around $50 a pop, it's not very appealing anymore....

If I couldn't find something that worked - then I would, but my 'O' clamps do the job so its a tough sell.  I just wanted something a little easier to deploy (a clamp that would hold the fixture weight until tightened) and to avoid getting my fingers pinched in them which seems to happen to me quite a lot. Darn it.

I remembered these guys, a UK outfit but they have a US office that apparently sells direct to the consumer:
http://www.doughty-usa.com/shop/8/index.htm

They have the Slimline Quick Trigger clamp that says it will work down to 38 mm, which is .1mm under 1.5".
Couldn't figure out how to find the price; must have to register on their site. Maybe they have an "ex-pat discount".

Thanks Scott.... I found one of these open box on eBay for less than 1/2 price of new so I have ordered it and will see if it does the  trick. If so I'll get more.

Have you seen this from Chauvet?  It MIGHT work.

That is similar to the ones I have John but are a slightly better design than mine. I would really like the 'hook' type so I can hang the fixture whilst tightening to the truss.

Also the one you linked to is on 35mm - it needs to be 38mm ( which is readily available in this design)

Correct, you are only concerned with the actual OD.

PIPE sizes are base on ID.  TUBING on OD.

Sorry I didn't update...

Well, it is extremely solid and heavy duty......but even on its smallest adjustment, it doesn't grip well enough and moves round. I'll try it with something between the truss and clamp to see if it works better.
I'm still struggling to find what I want so I'll just keep looking on an off....

I just tried it with a small piece of rubberized material in between and it does grip well. On reflection, I could use it this way and get more....
