Sorry I didn't update...

Well, it is extremely solid and heavy duty......but even on its smallest adjustment, it doesn't grip well enough and moves round. I'll try it with something between the truss and clamp to see if it works better.
I'm still struggling to find what I want so I'll just keep looking on an off....

I just tried it with a small piece of rubberized material in between and it does grip well. On reflection, I could use it this way and get more....
Maybe make some "truss protector" type clips out of PVC pipe or rubber hose that would stay on the truss and not have to mess with the rubberized material?

I just used that piece of thin rubber to test the clamp on a tripod but I am doing something similar to what you suggest right now anyway on some of my clamps because the plastic 'o' clamps I use tend to stretch over time and have become a little loose. About half of them have done this.
I use some material I have that I actually purchased to cut and use as scribble strips on my mixers and stage boxes. It is magnetic and comes on a roll - it is quite hardwearing. I cut small pieces to fit the truss beams and attach them to themselves with a piece of tape allowing them to stay a little loose so I can slide them on the beams. I was hoping to find something that just works without all these annoyances though.

Dave Garoutte is my hero!

He sent me one of his own designs - the 'A clamp'. I love this because it addresses all my needs!

It hangs over the truss beam supporting the weight of the fixture whilst tightening the clamp to the beam.
The nicest feature however IMO, is that because the adjustable leg is allowed to move freely in and out on the tensioning bolt (which is a nice chunky design) , once the clamp is hung on the truss, I can close the adjusting leg to the beam by hand and the tensioning nut spins freely to close - takes a second to tighten - so no struggling to hold the fixture in place whilst slowly tightening to the truss.
The grip is very tight too - no issues with movement once set and does not cause any damage to an aluminum truss.
Of course the best part for me is they actually fit!!!! YAY. They adjust from 1" to 2-1/4" tubing.
I am loving these and want more!!

Just wanted to share.

On their way.
I guess I may need to put these in actual production finally.

Yeah sorry for the lack of pictures but I didn't have the truss up when I wrote the post.
