I am in my second season of using a Midas MR18 for live shows...still learning.
I use an external router with an HP15 laptop (2.16 Ghz quad-core Pentium running Windows 10) connected via ethernet, and an iPad connected via wifi for controlling the mixer using the factory M-Air edit software. I am not familiar with the extent of the computer's multitasking capabilities, so I'm asking a noob question concerning recording with it.
Am I likely to be able to record 18-channel multitrack from the mixer's USB port to one of the computer's USB ports while simultaneously running Audacity and the M-Air software? I am assuming that I would use an external 1TB USB hard drive dedicated only to recording the audio data, to avoid conflicts over disk usage between program/system needs and audio data needs. Since there are recording specialists on the board, I am hoping to get a quick seat-of-the-pants estimate of "No way in Hell" or "Don't see why not". I'm reluctant to do any blind experimenting on my own during a live show!
If I could do it with equipment I already own, I would like to. If I CAN'T, what would I most likely need to change?
Thanks for any help.
