So, I'm cleaning up my XLRs from the wet weekend and am finally dealing with a pet peeve.
Thought I'd share.
The velcro-y cable ties are always a pain because you can't find the end once they're wrapped tight (like a roll of tape).
I've been thinking of melting the hooks on the last bit, but just came up with a simpler solution.
Smash the ends!
I took a ball peen hammer and tapped on the last 1/2" or so to mash the hooks down.
It works!
Now the last bit isn't stuck down and you can find it instantly.

Here's what I do... mark the end of the velcro with a white acrylic paint pen.  Put about a 1/4" wide line parallel at the end of the strap.  This makes it easy to see where the end of the velco strap is.  The paint has been good with weather issues (rain, snow, etc...).  I did this to all my velcro straps.

Melting with a quick swipe of a hot knife works very well indeed but that’s a technology that might not be part of my tool inventory but for being a senior parachute rigger in a previous life. Of course, when in doubt, hitting it with a hammer is a pretty effective solution as well.
