Pelican case for XR18
« on: September 16, 2021, 03:32:45 PM »

Thinking of picking up a nicely priced used XR18.  Looks like the Pelican 1450 is the best fit, or have I missed a better one?

The soft Gator case made for the XR18 is nice but a tight fit and of course not a hard case BUT it always seemed to protect mine well. I placed a thick piece of foam on the top of it so the antenna wouldn't get damaged if anything was placed on top of it whilst in the case.

Thanks.  And of course the tight fit is on the long axis.

It fits nicely in a 1550 if you want to carry any extra bits

Sorry to not have a direct answer.

1550 seems like a reasonable size.

I have the soft gator case as well.

However, I've been using a 3RU anvil case for mine, and that's been nice: I use some networking equipment (a router and a WAP or, more recently just a WAP w/ some ethernet ports) and it is nice to just leave the power and network ethernet setup and plugged in.

If I had to start over, I'd just go with a shallow 3 space rack again.

While it would be overkill for this mixer, it's good to know that the Pelican 1620 is the largest one that you can check as luggage without incurring the oversized baggage fee. I found out the hard way with the 1640 and sold it and got the 1620 instead.
