Easiest way to record a Madi Stream
« on: September 16, 2021, 10:36:27 AM »

If someone handed you a MADI BNC cable and you needed to record all 64 tracks at 96k, what would be the simplest, most straightforward way to do this.

Hardware preferred, but needs to be something that i can find to rent and get to CA before this weekend. Otherwise, Mac Software solutions are an option as well. Computers i've got. Just need the easiest way to get the MADI into the computer.

Thanks for any assistance in advance!

Hardware preferred

I would be searching for a Joeco BBR64-Madi or a Sound Devices 970. The Joeco records direct to a USB drive, the 970 has a few other options for media I believe.

I think some of the RME interfaces also have an option to record direct to USB media.

It should be pretty easy to rent a Dante to MADI converter, there are several brands out there, I know PRG has the Yamaha version.

Well the trick is that then i need to get it into a computer and DVS won't do 64 channels at 96K so far as i know. so i would also need an external Dante card for a computer and then it just gets complicated.

I think i've got this sorted the old fashioned way. Hire someone that does exactly this and let them figure it out. :)  [Thanks Diablo Digital!] It helps when they're only about a 45 minute drive from the venue. But thanks for the suggestions all.

A Sound Devices 970 would do it, all in one box, but I don't think they make them anymore.

Hi, 64 channels at 96k needs 2 madi streams. I would use a Digigrid MGB into a computer with your DAW of choice, recording to an external SSD. Should be easy to hire.

It'll only do 32 channels at 96K. And they're getting harder and harder to find.

The 270i will do the same along with video, but again won't do 64 at 96K.
