Wireless comms in a rowboat.
« on: September 01, 2021, 06:41:19 AM »

Hi Folks,

My children are members of a rowing club and their trainers have asked me to recommend a wireless comms system for training in the boats, on the water. It would be for one trainer in a boat to deliver instructions to four rowers in same boat as the trainer. Budget < €1000.00. The system should obviously be physically robust and waterproof. Any recommendations?  Thanks a million.

Best Regards,
Joey.

You're not going to get full duplex party-line wireless comms at that price, but you may be able to find some Motorola two-way radios with headsets on the used market. Bonus points as they are generally much more robust than comms.

Since the instructor and the rowers are going to be in the same boat, you don't need a system with a huge amount of range.  If only the instructor is talking, that makes it easier as well.

All you really need is some inexpensive walkie talkies and some waterproof headsets.

Here's a 4 pack for $130.  You can pick up 2 and be well below your budget.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. The actual device you need is called a "Cox Box". Google it!
