I would not start off assuming your antenna distribution is a fake, I'd use it as described in the SLX user guide. What needs to go are the T connections. With the distribution wired correctly and the paddles remoted on 25' cables you should be good to go.

Agreed.  I admit to name-brand snobbery when it comes RF gear recommendations.   ;)

Sam, if your antennas have switchable gain settings, like genuine PA874 do, start with 0dB. If you still get weirdness, try -6 dB.  Generally, avoid +6 and +10 unless they're driving 100+ feet of coax.

Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress!

Active antenna distribution pre-amplifiers.

Exactly what you don’t want.

I would not start off assuming your antenna distribution is a fake {...}

I mean, from the photo, that distro is clearly not a real Shure UA845 despite what the back panel claims (if nothing else, the Shure UA845 was UL-C listed, which isn't indicated in the photo of this unit). Whether or not it works is another question entirely, but to me this one is pretty clearly a clone.

To the OP, what bands are your mics and IEMs operating on? What is your process for selecting new frequencies for your wireless?

It's the word "preamplifier I was reacting to. You do not want more antenna gain. Inside the 844+ is just enough gain to make up for the losses due to the passive splitting.

Hi Jason,
Yes, they do have switchable gains on each paddle. I'm trying to remember what I have it set to but I believe it is at 0 Unity. I can double check tomorrow when I get my trailer loaded up for another show this weekend.

As far as Coax with BNC connectors cable. I know there are many different types and quality cables out there. Is there a particular brand or model that I should be using? I would like to purchase 2qty of the 25'ft coax cable so that I can place the paddles further away from the wireless rack and and router.

Thanks.

Hey everyone,
Hoping to get some different ideas on as to why my SLX wireless Shure mics kept dropping audio during my most recent event. Mics were about 15-20 and in line of site of the performers, nothing in the way except 3 mic stands and it kept cutting out at the top of the show... I ended up wiring up 2 mics to replace the wireless mics on the first two songs. It kept switching from Antenna A  to and Antenna B constantly on both of my SLX's  that were being used by the lead vocalist (I have 4 total that day 2 for leads vox, 2 for the B/U vox)

I changed the group, changed the channels and still had issues switching from A to B antennas.. I do have an external antenna booster, not sure of that was the issue or not. These units are NOT in the 600mhz freq ranges..

I didn't seem to have this issue on more recent events, not sure what changed or what I can do to better the situation?

Mounted inside the rack is my Wifi router (5g) which shouldn't pose an issue?

Your thoughts?

Hi Sam,
I haven't been able to follow this thread completely however the "A/B" switching thing and the picture of the "T" connectors did raise a question. Forgive me if this seems insulting, but: Did you happen to have each receiver being fed on both sides from either the "A" or "B" antenna output from the antenna distribution?,  The "T" connectors looked kind of like they were set up to each feed both sides of a receiver...but I think you were not using them (perhaps they were your old set-up)? Feeding both inputs from the same antenna is a no-no (but could explain the diversity system desperately switching back-and-forth if the one antenna they were both connected to was seeing multi-path). This may seem really basic, but I have had rental racks show up wired this way and I have also had people ask me if it was "ok" to do it this way, for various reasons... ::)

Hi Sam,

I replied to your email but also want to share my recommendation with those who are interested.

If you’re OK with buying from an eBay seller, this manufacturer makes superb cables in USA and smokes the price compared to Shure, Sennheiser, and Audio-Technica for equivalent products.  I’ve purchased from this company many times and always been very happy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/231562825929?hash=item35ea3850c9:g:mMgAAOSweW5VViQn That’s RG8X, which is good low-loss coax for a 25-footer, has a conveniently small diameter, is reasonably durable, and coils easily.  FWIW, LMR-400 or 9913F7 can be overkill on that short length for RX applications.

For comparison, here’s the equivalent Shure cable for more $: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/117599-REG/Shure_UA825_UA825_Antenna_Extension_Cable.html
