Podium mic on off switch on pressure floor pad
« on: June 09, 2021, 04:32:08 PM »

All,
I am sure this has been invented or discussed before but I cannot find it.  Does anyone know of a pressure sensitive mat that can be placed on the floor at a podium  that would unmute and mute a microphone lets say for a HOW or similar? We have a customer that wants this functionality and I just don't have a solution in my back pocket where I usually find things like that.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Wire a pressure sensing alarm door mat in place of the red momentary talk button on this: https://www.avlifesavers.com/multisw.htm

This was talked about extensively over on the Syn-Aud-Con forum a month or two back.   I didn't follow it closely because I don't have a similar use case, but there were a lot of different ways to skin the cat if I remember.  You do have a be a member to view that forum though.  $30 buys you a year.

I don't know about switch mats but there is a device available that uses a proximity detector to sense when someone is close to the mic and inserts on the XLR line.
Here is an example...

Most pressure mats I believe are essentially a contact closure device.  If it goes into a DSP, it's pretty simple with a bit of logic (contact wire close mutes the mic input).  If going into a console rather than a DSP, talk with RDL, or look into the Radial Relay XO and floor mat.
