JBL MP 415 Hurn repair?
« on: May 22, 2021, 02:45:18 PM »

How do I get the horn driver off the molded front baffle plate? I have a replacement diaphragm but can’t see how to remove the driver. Does it screw off? Thanks?

Yes, they screw off/on.

You can leave the driver on the horn and still replace the diaphragm.

I've seen thread on drivers seized to the threads in a horn or work loose from vibration
and fall off inside the cabinet.

Very true,
The diaphragms can be replaced without removing the driver (But may be a good idea to un-screw to properly clean the magnet gap).
Very nice boxes. Had to let go of these years back in favor of the Ev sx300 due to the difficulty getting JBL replacement diaphragms)
Cheers,

This might be handy. As an aside JBL has really dialed up the crossovers on their low end gear since the Cabaret series.

If you take the diaphragm off, the magnet gap is exposed on the back side. I don't see how you gain any additional access to anything by unscrewing it from the horn.

If you do decide to unscrew it, put new loctite in the threads, or eventually it will work loose and cause the cabinet to rattle.

The front baffle is all one piece a doesn’t come off! I have to unscrew to access it.

The front baffle is one molded piece that also is the horn. Take out the screws around the edge and it will come out, pull the woofer first to make it easier.

While you have the woofer out see you can reach up and around to unscrew the driver....if it is not stuck on the horn, then your back to pulling the entire baffle.

A friend of mine had some MP cabinets I worked on maybe about years ago.
