Help with Yamaha EMX-5000-20 Powered Mixer
« on: April 30, 2021, 06:27:09 AM »

Hallo everyone,

I have a Yamaha EMX-5000-20 Powered Mixer, a pair of JBL JRX118sp Powered Subwoofers and a pair of JBL SF 15 Passive Speakers (8 Ohms each).

I have read the manual of the Yamaha Mixer about ten times, but I can't figure out, hoe the internal power amps works.
In the manual it says :

Set this as appropriate for the size of the room or
the input capacity of the speakers.
• 500W + 500W
The two internal amps will produce a maximum
of 500W + 500W/4W.
• 300W + 300W
The two internal amps will produce a maximum
of 300W + 300W/4W.
• 100W + 100W
The two internal amps will produce a maximum
of 100W + 100W/4W.

Can I still use my 8 Ohms Speakers? If yes which of the three setups should I use (100W, 300W or 500W)
The Speakers work between 250-1000 W.

I also don't understand, if the internals power amps send the signal only to the Speaker Outputs?

I also have a Crown XLS-602 Power Amp and a Behringer Super-X Pro CX2310 Crossover. Do I really need them or could I just use the Yamaha to connect my 4 Speakers (2 Subs+2 Speakers)

Every recommendation is welcome  :) :)

The internal amps will produce power determined by the ohms it encounters .The lower the ohmage the higher the power. It doesn't need to be switched anywhere. The power comes from the output on the back panel only. I would connect the subs to the sub out. It is a full range out but the subs have a built in xover and will only reproduce the lower register. there are four aux outs that can be run into other power amps/powered speakers for monitor use. This is my take from a 15 minute read through the quick start part of the manual.  Hope it helps

Check the owner's manual on adding a sub
You would not run the tops full range .
you would have use the consoles built in crossover
or patch your own in through the preamp and out
it's explained in the manual on page 28 https://manualmachine.com/yamaha/emx500020/697852-user-manual/

I had the 5000-12.  I don't recall an internal cross over.  I ran ST Out to a crossover, then to a power amp and used the onboard amps as monitor 1 and 2.  Could just as easily use powered sub.  You might have to,research the lpf of the crossover in the sub and mimic that with the external crossover.  Instead of using an external power amp, you could bring the mid's and highs back in the pwr amp in jacks.   That board had pretty flexible i/o for an all in one...
