Needing some help finding best ethernet based system
« on: April 26, 2021, 10:20:37 PM »

Hi all,
i am new to this forum, i usually post on stereonet but they are more of a hifi based forum

i am looking to set up a school hall with an ethernet based system, however i am abit behind now, i was really up to date about 10 years ago.
my budget is about 5k-6k aud.

what im looking for is an ethernet based controller, with 24-32 channels and motorized faders. hoping to run an ethernet cable from the controller desk to some stage boxes on the side of the stage.

is this possible in my budget? and what is the best protocol as far as dante, avb, and the rest?

any help is much appreciated

Ethernet as in actual Ethernet based networking running across Ethernet switches or “Ethernet” as in already installed cat5e cabling?

Are you looking for a single 'venue' setup, or a distributed system?
If it's just the one hall, most midrange systems use cat5 or cat6 cables to run from stage box to console.
A&H, Behringer, Midas, Soundcraft, etc all can accommodate cat-based cabling.
They all use proprietary systems, which is fine for a single venue.
Your budget should easily cover a mixer and stagebox.
If you need distributed, you'll need a Dante or MADI adapter cards, which can add substantially to the expense.

Keep in mind some require shielded cable so there’s a good chance existing in-wall cable won’t work.  Many are also not Ethernet standards compliant.  They just use catx cable as the physical transport.
