Electro-Voice DML 1122A EV DX38 DSP settings
« on: April 15, 2021, 11:18:30 PM »

Dear All,
I just purchased a bunch of these boxes used,
I know they are an ancient box and are bi-amp only. They used to have a dedicated electronic controller, which i wont be able to find.
Am planing on using a dx38 instead. I have bi-amped qrx 115, and MTH 2.5/64 boxes and I have some starting points.
I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions.

Took a bit of digging, but here's a document from EV listing parameters for the Dx34A controller to use with the DML-1122A. I'm not an EV expert by any means, but I suspect that they'd work just as well with the Dx38 (or as a starting point if nothing else).

Some years ago I programmed a dbx DriveRack to run 1122A's...I'll see if I can still find that info and report back. FWIW, the 1122A is one of my favourite speakers and I have done many (like thousands) of successful shows with them.
Edit: So I found my files but I have no way of looking at them as I don't have the DriveRack UI on any of my computers...

The Deltamax controller was more complex than just a crossover - it had a pretty aggressive EQ, a delay, and a sense line for the amplifier output that controlled a limiter.

I wonder if you could use the FIR preset for the Xi-1122A which is available in the DX46 or the new Dynacord amplifiers. The HF drivers are different but I believe the ND6 in the Xi and the DH1A in the DML use the same diaphragm and are pretty comparable in performance. I find the FIR preset makes my Xi-1122As sound like a hi-fi speaker - much better than the generic presets that were available in a PDF from EV.

I remember when Deltamax and UPAs were the only "real" choices in that format.  IIRC EAW joined the party mid 90s with some solid boxes but I can't remember the model numbers. There may have offerings from Turbosound and Martin but I was not aware of them.

Things sure have changed.

A quick digest of the DX34 settings shows a HPF of 78hz on the LF (15") with a LPF of 1200, the HPF is 1280hz on the HF
I will obviously be using subs which i normally low pass at 80hz. On the mids (15") I normally use a HPF of 100hz LR24 and LPF of 1500hz LR24 and then HPF of 1500hz LR24 on the HF. This is mostly on the qrx 115 boxes. Do I need to change any other settings like PEQs and delays? they look ok to me.
I wont be using the LSF slope and am quite conservative on the HSF slope gain (rarely exceed +3db)

Do you have 1122's, or 1152's? Just confused because you refer to 15" in the above post. 1122's have 12" LF. In any case, there's a small delay between the HF and LF. As I mentioned before, I can't really access my files for that but you should be able to calculate it (roughly) with a tape measure if you do not have a delay finder application. It's been years since I was inside one of those boxes but if, say, the HF driver is a couple of inches (5mm) deeper in the box than the LF driver, you will need to delay the LF by 1.45ms.

Sorry my mistake,
Its the 12" woofer.
I will surely try and work out the delay distance. (i think i can find that out by measurement as you suggested)
Cheers,
