"High Futility" many decades ago
« on: April 13, 2021, 04:32:47 PM »

Watch this all the way through.

I love the stereo listening party towards the end

Most people use equipment to listen to music.  Hi fi guys use music to listen to equipment.  It hasn't changed.

I'm a hifi guy that listens to the tone of each instrument in a song on hifi equipment. I listen to music on my 12yo compaq computer speakers and cheap car stereo.

Listening to CDs or vinyl on my home system was never the same after having live bands in my living room.

The idea being that if you can hear your equipment then it isn't good enough!

My dad was a recording engineer for RCA. I have a stash of his open reel commercial releases from the 1950s. All mono and mostly classical. The fidelity is as expected for the technology, but performances were very good and nice to listen to.

Tape shedding and print-through (pre/post echo) can be a real problem with aging tape. Glad I transferred my dad's reel to reels and my own live cassette recordings to digital while they still (mostly) were in decent shape.
