Reasonable (yes cheap) mic to line level amp
« on: February 23, 2021, 07:56:23 PM »

Hello all.

We are setting up to use a spare AuxIn on our M32 as an alternate talk-back to the stage monitors.  However, we need to amplify the mic to a level the AuxIn can work with.  Can anyone suggest a readily available and reasonably priced amp, hopefully with +48V, to serve this need?

I haven't tested yet, but I think it may be possible to use one of the simple 2ch mic-USB interfaces (like a UMC22) and connect the output to our AuxIn input.  We would need to power the interface box with a USB cube.  Thoughts?

Thanks to all who provide assistance.

Here's a simple utility mic pre amp that will do 20 volts phantom power.

If there's ever an unusual problem and you have to ask "is there a thing that does xxx?" You can be sure that Rolls has that device.

Bullwinkle: This is the amplifier, which amplifies the sound. This is the Preamplifier which, of course, amplifies the pree's.

I don't know of any "current" models but both EV and Shure used to sell (many many years ago) a line level microphone.  Maybe you can find one on ebay or Reverb.  They are:

Electrovoice RE34
or
Shure SM82

I actually own a RE34 and really like it for testing and specialized applications.  It uses just a regular 9 volt battery, which makes it a little "fat" looking.  I don't have any experience with the Shure SM82, but it has a nice "slim" body and uses a rather obscure (but available online) Eveready E177 battery.
