Ha, though tape players in cars lasted well into the 00's here in cheap vehicles, my Aunties 2006 KA had a tape instead of a CD player. But then the level of kit on that was 0.

But what a pioneer, how many acts did their demos on 4 track cassette, and having the ability to listen to your music on the go without needing large batteries or bulky playback media would have been a revolution.

He had a nice little Colorado connection too, his first couple of albums were more  acoustic, recorded out in Golden, included some great locals, like members of Stephen Stills band, Joe Walsh came out from Cleveland, and Todd Rundgren sat in.  Pretty high praise for Michael's great talent. 

MSB really were in that group of great blue collar midwest rock bands along Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, etc.

Yet he also fit right in with those other singer songwriter types like Fogelberg, Stills, and others.
