Where to sell 4/0 4-conductor SOOW locally?
« on: January 02, 2021, 05:47:18 PM »

I've got about 130' of 4/0 SOOW cable (4-conductor) that I no longer need. I'm not very interested in trying to ship it, so I figured I'd call around, trying to find someone who needed it before posting it on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. My assumption is that I'll make more on the sale if I reach out to kind of tradespeople/companies that commonly use this type of thing.

I'll start with other local production companies, but do you guys have any advice or knowledge of where to start after that? Someone told me welders might be able to use it - does that sound right? Maybe equipment rental shops (lifts/generators/etc)?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Regardless, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are the first go to spots for me anymore.

Best regards,

Andrew,

I have never seen any 4-conductor 4/0 SOOW cable. Is your cable 4/0, or 4/4?

Way back in the day when I worked in a grocery store, there was a serious storm that rolled through and power was to be out for a few days. So to get the refrigeration back up and running, the owner had a large trailered 3 phase generator brought in. The single feeder cable to tie it into the main after the service disconnects came on a pallet and was about the size of my bicep around. The tightest bend radius it could be coiled at still spilled a bit off the sides of a standard pallet.

The mains entered on the second floor of the building where the compressors were...I still remember it taking three of us pulling on the rope to lift the cable from the pallet on the ground at the back of the building just the tail up to the second floor.

about 20 years ago I put connectors on each end of a 4/0 4 conductor cord. It was a very heavy task and pure hell. The cable was on a big wooden reel.

I wonder if he meant 4 piece of single conductor 4/0 soow feeder cable like is commonly used.  That’s what I assumed when I read it.  Probably because it never even crossed my mind that someone in our industry would have 4c 4/0 but 1c 4/0 is common.
