Wireless DMX clip/hook
« on: January 01, 2021, 04:23:35 PM »

Happy new year to all.

Over the last 4 years or so I've had great results with these simple wireless Tx/Rx DMX boards from e-bay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-DMX512-PCB-Modules-board-LED-Controller-Transmitter-Receiver-New/302305262697?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I have built them into general-purpose Tx/Rx boxes or integrated them into lighting fixtures, smoke machines, small controllers and the like with great success (for me and for colleagues)
I don't like the popular one-piece wireless DMX dongles that plug directly into the XLR jack of the fixture. I see that hanging leverage as an accident waiting to happen...

Lately I took the plunge into 3D printing and naturally also designed some items relating to this subject.
Here are my ideas of a practical 'clip-on' and 'hook-on' DMX receivers. All main parts are 3D printed. They are fitted with the above wireless DMX boards and these internal antennas:

See here a short demo of the working models. Sorry for the 'strange' language in the video (Hebrew) but you will get the general idea)

Nicely done Nimrod.
Very clever design for an interesting solution.

Very clever, and nicely done. If you wish to [legally] market these, you'll first need to get respective jurisdictional CE, FCC, IC, etc approvals for finished RF devices, which means sending of to a testing/certification lab.

Thanks guys,

I have no intention or desire for future manufacturing of these. If anyone wants to push these ideas forward they are welcome.
They were simply design exercises of ideas I had in my head for some time and as 3D printing is now at my finger tips I decided to make prototype models of them.

And by demand from the pro's..

Here's another version in which the power supply is integrated into the hook,
and the connections are via PowerCon and XLR:
