Another Use for Your NCVT

(1/1)

Geoff Doane:
Since you probably aren't checking for a hot chassis on gigs these days, here's another application for your Non-Contact Voltage Tester.

I was getting the Christmas lights ready to go and discovered one series string LED set that wouldn't light.  Probably a defective lamp. but which one?  I plugged it in, and then checked with the NCVT on either side of each lamp of the string.  The first few got a positive test on both sides.  Until I got to the bad one, which got a reading on one side, but not the other.  There was my open lamp.  Turns out the lead had corroded off and opened up, but they do include spares in the sets, so I did the replacement and was back in business.

It sure beats replacing each lamp until you hit the bad one!
