« on: November 28, 2020, 03:02:33 PM »

It's been out about a week. I haven't heard much yet but thought I'd post about it.

Decent looking design.

I particularly like that they included the tablet docking station built in.  Nice attention to detail that the others have somehow missed.

Not sure if it's an actual Docking plug in port or if its just through the built in WiFi.

28 inputs, 8 faders to assign them to, and no LCD scribble strips seems like a bad idea to me.

On the plus side, it seems SUPER compact for a 16 XLR input mixer.

Priced at $1500 it is up against the X32 Producer.  Another mixer that really SHOULD have had LCD scribble strips!

I wonder how it sounds?

I have a Yamaha 01v96 that has 16 onboard preamps and once in awhile I'd bring it up around 26 or so with Adat premaps or another 01v adats out with no scribble strips. Wasn't too bad to remember.
With this having 16 XLR inputs it should be easy to remember plus 4 DCA groups can keep things easy. Being able to name channels and having 8 on the desk's screen with 8 more on a Ipad should be fine.
I believe they just started to ship so a report on the sound may be awhile. I had a few Peavey mixers though the years, Xr500c, XR1200c, XR1600c and some of the Unity series that I can remember the names of. Sounded ok back then but that was close to 20 years ago so I'm guessing this would sound fine.

It Kinda has scribble strips in that there are channel labels on the display above the faders. Not perfect, but better than the Producer.

As to how it "sounds" my money says it sounds Just FineTM, which is what nearly all digital mixers today sound like.

I actually think this little mixer is pretty cool. Small enough to tuck under your arm, but it still has a real touch screen and actual moving faders. Real XLR I/O along with the ability to use up to ten additional control surfaces is just icing on the cake.

I may have missed a product somewhere, but i can't recall something that fits so neatly between "kinda smallish mixer with 17 faders that's rack width" and "tiny lunchbox mixer with no physical controls". I'm not in the market for this right now, but i can think of a LOT of great applications for this little thing. If they put an Automixer Function in it, they'll sell zillions as breakout room mixers...

It definitely looks interesting.  It's the smallest mixer I've seen with flying faders.

If this mixer had digital IO (dante) it would be a killer courtside basketball mixer... of which there is nothing in that footprint Brian mentioned.. smaller then rack mount... with physical controls.... and networked audio inputs...because the wireless mics for the national anthem are in a rack upstairs.

Just took a closer look at the back.  Proprietary external power brick.  Damn. Hard pass.
