4 channel Dimmer Pack detail
« on: November 11, 2020, 07:19:39 PM »

Hi,

I have a Eliminator Lighting Chaser, 4 channel controller, model EC-16.
I assume it is what other suppliers call a Dimmer Pack?
It works fine on audio pick-up but I want to upgrade to control by cable.

There are Din5 Link In and Out that I do not find how it works.

Does anyone know what type of protocol is used, audio, analog, midi or DMX and what is the pin-out?
The circuit is a 2004 design and use a SN75176 Diff bus chip like many DMX-512.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like this is just a 'dumb' controller, meaning it responds to sound and makes the channels go blinky blinky based on the music. It doesn't appear to have DMX control on it at all. Not worth the effort to try and add it, based on the cost of an actual DMX dimmer.

If memory is correct, these packs used 0-10 vdc to control via the din connectors, which means you would need an old-school analog controller. Contemporary DMX packs can be found for $100 or less.

This is an on/off switcher, not a dimmer.  Standard DMX control via XLR connector. I presume MIDI control is the DIN5.

Unless you have a manual for this that shows otherwise there are no XLR connectors, and no mention of dmx, nor any dip switches to set an address. These were sold back when analog control was still popular. I installed a few similar to these in the early 2000's, and I seem to remember the din connectors were the in/out for the analog control.

Yes, this appears to be correct. The design of this is to turn on and off lighting effects, not dim lamps.

This unit retails at $150 and does both dimming and relay contacts for devices that can't be dimmed.  You can find used items that are similar for about a third of that price, if you shop around.

You are correct.  This is not DMX.  There are no XLR connectors.

Hi Guys,
Thank you All for your guiding answers.
Well I found some answers myself: It's not DMX, neither Midi as you mentionned.
It's a ON - OFF switches only , NO Dimming!
No great Interest more than curiosity.
DIN 5 Pinout is 4-B,   1-A Differential 75176 chip and 2-Gnd.
It's a 112uSec cycle + and - 5V isolated signal. There's a 40 uSec start burst. The 4 On and Off 4 uSec are repeated inverted (see attached scope).
I suppose it's an In-House Eliminator Ligthing protocol. No answer from company!. Hope it could be use by others.

That's all Folks!
