Who makes a good powered mixer these days? Someone asked me for a referral but I haven't used one in a while.

If you don't need too many channels:
http://yorkville.com/mixers/micromix/product/m810-2/
I own one of each; m810-2 & m1610-2

They work well.

Peavey was always great for that, not sure about nowadays.

Back in the day it was an XR-600B and a pair of SP-2s.  Perfect bar gig then.

Ditto on Peavey, add Yamaha EMX to the list.

Why powered mixer?

A friend has a set of SP2s and FH1s in his shed. One day I want to do an 80s themed event with them.

Mike,

How is the fan noise on those mixers when running at idle (around a watt or less) levels?

Steve.

Sp2's and FH-1's was the system I first went out with around 1989 to 1993.  1 Cs800 with 150hz crossover can's for the FH-1's. (around 240 watts each) and another cs800 for the SP2's run full range for added low end.  I didn't understand time alignment back then but I found they sounded best with the subs in front of the tripods in the bass range. Fun times really.  With the CS800's just starting to flash the DDT lights you could get a good 60hz thump out of them. I believe their usable low frequency limit was 59hz. I did have a PL Subsonic can on for low frequency protection. Those subsonic cans may have been 40hz but I'm not sure.

I was the engineering manager over the Peavey powered mixers (last century) and they didn't have fans, at least for the top box xr600 series.

But that was last century so who knows these days? (But class D amps have gotten cheaper.)
