Quick test of outlet voltage
« on: September 11, 2020, 05:54:52 PM »

Long ago there was a thread about the need for a meter to quickly test outlets.  Well, someone was listening.

That looks like a three lamp tester with only two lamps....

If I was younger I might invest $20 to see what it does... but nah...

Checking the pix on the Home Depot page it looks like the two lights are a summery.  If there is a fault, it shows up as test on the screen.

I am going to grab one next time I am at home depot.

The hard part is detecting reverse polarity bootleg ground.

My tester did.

It lets me retire my old Emico meter.

This isn't in quite the same price range, but this is what I use. In addition everything the Klein does, it can also load test (which can be super handy in sketchy venues).

I might have to pick up one or two of those Klein things though, at least for my small workbox. The price is right, and I can see myself using it occasionally. Thanks for sharing!

A power tester with a battery icon?  Seems to store data?

It lets me retire my old Emico meter.

I still have an old school neon lamp with two probe leads. Very effective for checking for presence of mains voltage.

Probing outlets using only one lead while grounding the free lead with your hand, body works to suss out wiring faults like RPBG.
