AV Lifesavers product questions.
« on: September 11, 2020, 09:47:49 AM »

A/V lifesavers make a product that spills the audio out, and allows you to inject your own mic.  I know he mostly makes things for Clear Com.  Has anyone ever tried this with a RTS BP-325 belt pack? There is a company that I freelance with they use the RTS. Would be so helpful to use my headphones and my own mic for intercom instead of wearing two (sometimes three) headsets.

I would drop Lonnie a line and ask him directly.  He was very helpful and knowledgeable when I had a question about his products.

Do you mean "splits the headphone out"? I'm 99% certain that headset pin-out does not vary across manufacturers, so an accessory that breaks out a 4-pin XLR, for example, should work on CC or RTS or RAD etc.

Are you talking about one of these that turns your headphones into the com headset?

This would require a belt pack upstream of this device and then you adapt the 4 pin connector to whatever box you are using.

They also have these headset adapters that I found via Pete Erskine's website.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, I added a headphone jack to my com phone style headset. Basically I wired a female 3.5mm off the two pins in the 4-pole xlr connector. The handset functions as normal but I can also plug my headphone direct into this. Or adapt it to go into my console and keep it cued at all times in my headphones, while also being able to solo channels on the desk.

I did drop him a line.  His reply was that he makes his stuff for Clear Com not Telex.  He never went any further.

This is correct. The only real difference in headset connections between the Major Intercom manufacturers is the gender of the Connector used on the beltpack vs. the headset.

As to the AV Lifesavers owner saying he only makes things for ClearCom and not Telex, that sounds like a CYA kind of statement so he doesn't have to deal with a rash of crap from someone that does something truly silly with his stuff and a Telex product and breaks something. But yeah, his headset breakouts will work fine with RTS BP-325s with the appropriate Turnaround adapter.
