A lot of the older DSLRs have non-standard HDMI outs or don't allow a clear screen free of any menus or whatever. The Canon Webacm Utility solves that for most of them, even the older Canons that aren't technically supported work with the Webcam utility.  It's a great little tool. I use my Canon T3i now as a webcam and can take advantage of prime lenses and short DOF to make me look slightly less awful.  :)

Sadly it appears that my T1i is just a little too old to work.   :(

i too have a T1i and yes, it is just barely too old.

There is some hacks you can do to get the display to clear menus and output a "clean aperture" but it doesn't really get you what you want. Ask me how i know....

I ended up buying a used T3i body for just this reason as i already had the glass, i just needed a slightly newer/better camera for cheap[ish]
