Black wire is digital ground and the yellow wire is aes3 with [email protected] levels. This IC is the same on all x32/m32.

I like the toslink option myself since it is the easiest one to implement.

Robert, any further details about the DIY, pics, and reports from the field appreciated.

Not having dug into mine, is there a 5v rail to pull power from, or would 5v have to be boosted from 3.3v?

Toslink is just a led in some fancy plastic mould. You could more or less connect that led directly to the x32 IC through a current limiting resistor.
