HDMI to VGA converter for presentations
« on: July 20, 2020, 12:08:09 PM »

Our local City Hall has a video system with input from multiple points using VGA which is simultaneously broadcast to 6 monitors at council member's positions and then to a wall mount large format screen for the gallery.
Recently a physician came in to do a presentation and his laptop only offered HDMI.

I am looking for a quality device that will let the city adapt HDMI at a single point to broadcast over their existing VGA system as a temporary fix until they decide to update all the monitors and associated wiring. I have read about a few products online that seem to fit, but I wanted recommendations from here before purchasing.

There are very few segments where there is only only one choice.  You actually need two devices in your video work box for format conversion.  1 is the datavideo DAC-70 that will take care of VGA to HDMI and SDI.  It goes both ways and has audio embedding.  The other device is a Decimator.  It takes care of format conversion so when some schmuck like me shows up with an old Christie WXGA projector masked on the dress kit (gotta meet that 16x9 requirement on a budget!) you can handle refresh and resolution issues.  The Decimator is truly an amazing piece of kit.
