Red light inside Crown XLS 402/202
« on: April 04, 2011, 01:25:57 AM »

I have three Crown XLS amps, two 402s, and one 202. They all have a red light inside the chassis visible through the front grill. What is this for?

It is the "majik smoke retention indicator."  If it goes out, the majik smoke has been released from some internal component and the unit requires service. ;)

Alright, so it's a happy light. Happy lights should be blue/green imho.

Thanks for the help.

Not in Chairman Maos China - red was the happy colour.
Actually different colour leds have different forward operating voltages so in
this case (being used as a voltage reference) the colour IS important.
