Avid Profile.

Al Rettich:
Ran into a new problem I’ve not had before.

Avid Profile 4 DSP cards with a MADI record card.

Running tracks into desk.  All of a sudden, screen goes off, the scribble strips say backup mode.
Exchanged umbilical cables, started up fine.  Ran for a couple of hours, same issue.  Is this possible a HD going bad?

Audio still kept running, just no screen.

Save show file and DigiLog to a thumb drive, call Avid's support.  They'll have you email the show file, logs, and maybe a couple other files.

There are several possibilities as to what the problem is, but in general having the desk move to back up mode is one step above having it shut down.  The console should give you a couple of options - continue in backup mode (no control over desk, but still passes audio), a reset that starts loading the OS (you skip the mother board/BIOS loading), and shut down/restart.  The reset will interrupt audio and shut down is self explanatory.

The techs at Avid will suss this out with you.  Have the files ready to email.  They'll have you do a couple more things while they check the logs, configs and show.  They'll call you back with either more questions or suggestions about where to poke, swap, or change out as the troubleshooting dictates.
