I want to have a medium sized active rig to handle up to 400-500


I currently have 4 RCF art905as subs and no tops for this task.

I really like these subs and their size and weight

But they cost the same as the RCF 4Pro8003 subs which are bigger, heavier but slam harder.

So I am debating between gettting 4 more art905as or getting 4 4Pro8003. With 8 equal subs I can use them all and have a big wall of subs. WIth 4 of the 4Pro I would get the same SPL but they are harder to move around and if stairs are in the way it would be really hard to move them. It is usually me and a roadie.

So that is question number 1

Now the next and last question would be my tops

I really like the rcf art722a, the downside is the 90 degree horizontal dispersion,as I would like 2 per side to handle the output of the subs. I also like the EV ZXA5-60 but I am not sure about a 15 inch top and a 15 inch sub. Although I have used this combination (4 ZX5 to 4 art905as) but the bass is lacking.


My small setup would be 2 tops and 4 subs and the big one 4 tops and (either 8 15 inch subs or 4 18 inch subs). 

I want to keep a uniform look

Other options:

JBL VRX918sp the cost for me is almost double the RCF or KW subs, same for the tops so they are a no go
QSC KW is also an option to consider 4 KW152 and 4 KW181
FBT is also expensive around here
Yorkville is hard to find here, but the ls801pb with ZXa5s on top is also an option

I am also open to other active suggestions/combos

I personally like the option of the ZXa5-60.  I'm starting to wish I had
the 60 instead of the 90 because I want another pair now.  I may end up
buying 4 of the 60 and keep my 90 for smaller events.  Then again
I want to buy 4 new subs first.  I have 2 vrx198sp but the cost to get
up to 6 of them is just crazy and I don't see there being a good ROI.
I'm almost better off selling the 2 I have and going with 6 kw181.

My "B" rig is four SRX725s and four SRX718s. I have worked crowds approaching 1000 indoors and out with 110db up to about 75' from the stage. The system is properly powered (2x continuos rating for each cabinet) and has never given me trouble. You may want to give a second thought to the number of cabinets you need.
