208v & 110v socapex distros
« on: March 11, 2020, 07:53:27 PM »

Hey yalls! This past week we were provided a motionlabs distro that had 6 breakers and then a 110 soca and a 208 soca right next to it. Im very curious about how this is wired internally? does any one have any schematics or something like that? There didnt seem to be a switch or anything like that. you just plugged into whatever soca you want and had the specd voltage.

Thanks!

Usually there's a label right next to those connectors stating how they're wired, but it would be one line from each 2-pole breaker for the 120V, and both poles going to the 208.  Since the breaker poles are linked, if one trips they both trip.  So it would be something like this:

208V P19:
Pin 1 - Ckt 1 Hot (1st breaker X Leg)
Pin 2 - Ckt 1 Hot (1st breaker Y Leg)
Pin 3 - Ckt 2 Hot (2nd breaker Z Leg)
Pin 4 - Ckt 2 Hot (2nd breaker X Leg)
Pin 5 - Ckt 3 Hot (3rd breaker Y Leg)
Pin 6 - Ckt 3 Hot (3rd breaker Z Leg)
...(and so on)
Pin 11 - Ckt 6 Hot (6th breaker Y Leg)
Pin 12 - Ckt 6 Hot (6th breaker Z Leg)
Pin 13-18 Ground

120V P19:
Pin 1 - Ckt 1 Hot (1st breaker X Leg)
Pin 2 - Ckt 1 Neutral
Pin 3 - Ckt 2 Hot (2nd breaker Z Leg)
Pin 4 - Ckt 2 Neutral
Pin 5 - Ckt 3 Hot (3rd breaker Y Leg)
Pin 6 - Ckt 3 Neutral
...(and so on)
Pin 11 - Ckt 6 Hot (6th breaker Y Leg)
Pin 12 - Ckt 6 Neutral
Pin 13-18 Ground

Makes sense thanks!!

As long as you're working with 110/120v stuff, it's interchangeable.  If you do anything funny and need to tap 240 0r 208, then you need to pay more attention to what you're connecting.
