Multi-use Waves Intergration Rig
« on: March 13, 2020, 03:59:46 AM »

Hey All,

I'd like to integrate Waves into my live rig. I regularly mix on a Yamaha CL5 at my house gig (basically 8 days a week  ::)), but use a personal X32 when I freelance (which isn't often nowadays).

What's the easiest/cost effective way to have a system that can easily be used in either setting? Buy Waves cards for each? Bypass both and build an LV1 rig? Buy a Dante card for the X32 system and a WSG Dante Bridge?

If it makes a difference, I also have an LS9 sitting at home, if that makes the case for purchasing a Yamaha Waves card.

At the moment, I don't own any cards or servers.

If you saw my post in a certain group on a certain social media site, you might've seen the solution on a card for each and a server presented, which I'm thinking might be the way to go. But, I want to get a few opinions before I drop the bucks on this option. Especially now...

Thanks for your thoughts!

My money would probably be on going with a Dante Bridge and SG server since you have two yamaha boards and an X32.

+1 on the Dante Bridge w/ SG server.  That's what I'm using, and it works great and I didn't need to purchase Waves cards for multiple consoles, many of which already had Dante cards installed.

Remember you can't do channel inserts on a CL5, without a MY card at least.

Correct. That's a large deciding factor for me. Plus, neither the x32 or LS9 I have are currently Dante capable.

I bought a waves card for each.  The cost was something like $235 for the m32 and you can get a great deal on the Yamaha card new from many folks on here, and I see them go used for $400 all the time.

It's a very cost effective way to broaden the functionality of both desks.

I could be wrong, but one additional benefit of going Waves route instead of Dante is atleast the multitrack driver is free while Dante is about 29 USD.

You really want super rack and a touch screen though. It is awesome.
