JoeCo Remote Control protocol
« on: February 29, 2020, 06:20:37 PM »

Anyone ever delved into either the MIDI or P2 control protocol for the JoeCo BlackBox?

There's only documentation on the MIDI format from JoeCo, and the P2 protocol documentation (from other sites) doesn't really specify how to enable/disable record tracks or get level metering, which I assume the JoeCo Remote App is able to do?

Andrew,

Can you run wireshark to see what the control app is spitting out? Or do you need the actual device to get it to display the commands?

I did something similar with a projector that didn't have a module in companion. I just pulled the command from the projectors web controller. Then used the generic module in companion.

I'm sure you have thought of this. I'm offering a layman's outside perspective.

Thanks, Lou.

I was able to get some info from JoeCo, including track arming and play/record/stop commands, but nothing about the meter data which they say is "proprietary". Sniffing the RS422 data would probably get me what I need, but really too much effort required. Just thinking that someone may have already gone down that road.

I was interested in supporting the JoeCo on StreamDeck, but it's getting to be more work than I want to devote.
