That's probably where I'd put subs if I were designing for a dance hall. Keeps all the beer and feet off of them.
Obviously the angles aren't useful though.

Being flown does take up less much needed floor area. Keeps the drunk girls from falling off.

But the back to back facing subs made for some interesting low end

In mid-80's, when I lived in Kansas City (KS), there was a large bar/club on the MO. side that had all its PA speakers (from what I recall - JBL Cabarate series) rigged in the ceiling (similar to the photo, but pointing straight down).  There was about 24 speakers (subs, mid/high, and full-range) spread across the entire bar.  Directly above the DJ booth (suspended from the ceiling) was a large wooden rack (custom made with installed cooling fans) that housed about 12 Crown PSA/SA2 amplifiers.  This was one of the best sounding "club" DJ systems I had ever heard.  To my knowledge, nothing ever fell from the ceiling.

I didn't think the Cabarate series cabinets were fly-able, but I think the bar made them to be so.

I once flew 4x USW in a horizontal line over a dance floor.  Unistrut, etc.  Worked a charm and saved a fair amount of floor space in cramped quarters.
