Why not replace the XLR connectors with SpeakOn and do it properly?

+1 If changing connectors this is the way to go.

Eh I don't think I'm going to mess with the connectors. I know I mentioned it but I'll just get the xlr's and let it go. I doubt I'll be using this rig for too long anyway. I've told my band we can use it for small to medium room, which constitutes the majority of what we do. But if we do something outdoors where we have to cover more ground, I know this won't work. We usually end up hiring out for that.

If doing refurb on those, it would be worth the time and $.  I've seen a few acoustic types, with vocals use them successfully.  With a little TLC, you could get your time and money + a little out of them.  They also work for just general purpose voice only PA stuff or karaoke.

Another one here for putting in speakon jacks.
I am not the most technical kind of guy but if I can do it.....anyone can...

I have two pairs of 402's "beaters" which I use for monitors for 90% of my local band work.
When I bought them (as used) they had 1/4" inputs.
Since I still use racks/stacks mostly I found that remembering to bring a few "special" cables specifically for them in addition to my speakons got old really quick.
I felt it best to standardize to all speakon.
You have already opened the cabs/removed a few drivers, and replaced the speaker foam so it's not voodoo...

I found it to be a good project to do during a nor'easter (winter storm).....

I could do it yes and I probably will if I get enough time and ambition to work on them. I should clarify that the foam I replaced was the dampening material inside the box, not the foam surrounds on the cones. The cones are still in perfect shape.
