Device like PlayAUDIO12 Interface
« on: February 12, 2020, 02:18:12 PM »

First post on this forum, wondering if anyone knows of an interface like the PlayAUDIO12 Dual-USB Audio that has Dante connectivity as well. Trying to have a redundant Ableton Live rig with 2 Macs that doest require a $4,000+ Dante switcher.

what would be the merits of this over a couple of DVS licenses?

Need to know more about your set up and how you are using it.

We use the iConnect Play Audio 12 for our Ableton rig.

I wouldn't recommend using DVS.

From what I can see RME has a Dante Digiface, and Atlas do the IPUSBD.

I've not used either, and I don't think either have the fall-over feature the PA12s do, but I've not looked too closely.

we have a couple of DVS licenses, the issue is finding a device that can make a smooth Dante switchover from one computer to the other.

I wouldn't recommend using DVS.

We are very dependent on DVS, Most everything is routed through Dante. We are trying to setup a redundant Ableton rig, one computer at FOH and one on stage. using a Yamaha QL5, and a Midas m32 for monitors.

You can do this with products from Autograph, DirectOut, or SSL consoles.

No other products do samples-accurate Dante auto-switching, so far at least.

You can probably just use a UDK on the QL5 to do a patch change, with both computers connected to the Dante Network. All you need to do is write a patch change to switch over.

Do the new Yamahas still support patch libraries? On older consoles this is the way to go, but I thought the newer CL/QL series did not have patch libraries. In another thread I just posted how to do it with scenes.

Adam, just to add, the last price I received from Autograph (Sept 19) for their Dante switch, was a lot less than the cost of what you were suggesting in you first post if that helps at all?
