RF Switch
« on: February 04, 2020, 04:12:16 PM »

Can anyone recommend a good 2- or 3-way RF switch? I would like to use it to feed my spectrum analyzer from my receive rack.

Ideally, a 3-way would give me both diversity antennas and VHF for comms.

I would prefer a mechanical switch for simplicity.

Hi Henry, can you give us the Cole's notes on Absorptive vs. Reflective switches? I'm guessing it has to do with what happens to the non-selected source, but that's just a guess!
I, too, am curious about this.

"Cliff Notes" south of the border.

You're correct: Describes the internal state of the non-selected port. Absorptive means the non-selected port is terminated internally (and not reflecting any energy that might be coming into that port from a connected device such as an antenna or amplifier). Reflective means the non-selected port is unterminated internally and thus will reflect most of any energy that would be coming in from a connected device.

I like RLC Electronics manual toggles.  The model number I usually spec is SM-2-B for manually operated BNC.  They're versatile.

I forgot about RLC, and considering they're a 20 minute drive from my house (10 minutes from Mac), that's pathetic. They make excellent products, many being space qualified.

Who knew? I go by there on my way to the Laundromat or Mt Kisco Smokehouse.

And right across the street from La Tulipe. Get your croissants when you head back from the smokehouse!
