SPL Measurement System for Loudspeaker Specs
« on: February 03, 2020, 04:43:23 PM »

As manufacturers, at the time of stating specs on our systems, we must look for precise tools available.
We will thank very much any advice that could make our Max SPL (peak) and Continous SPL (average) readings accurate enough, without spending lots of $$$.
We already have good measuring mikes, A/D soundcards, microphone SPL calibrator, etc. In fact we want to improve what we are already doing with our, quite old, FFT and Chirp measuring system.
As we want to perform these measurements outdoors, for avoiding any reflections, we are looking for trustworthy software released for this application and loaded in a laptop.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Both Smaart and SysTune can do this.

REW would also work, and it's free.

Any of them can do this. Some are more focused to amplitud and phase measurement, and some to noise measurement like the one I remembered after posting, from Wavecapture: https://www.wavecapture.com/RTCapture3.html at $ 550.
The logging capabilities are more noise measurement oriented, I think.
I'll will compare features and prices on your suggested products.
Thank you very much.

I'll put in my customary plug for ARTA. It gives you considerably more control over what you're measuring than Smaart and the documentation is very complete and informative. It's NOT a black box. It also makes it easy to export impulse and frequency response data as text files (such as .csv). I see it as more of a serious lab tool for folks who know what they're doing. The package includes LIMP and STEPS for impedance and stepped-sine measurements. --Frank

Thank you Frank, Tim about ARTA,
I'm familiar with it and with the tremendous work developed by Ivo Mateljan since 2005/2006 in conjunction with LIMP and STEPS.
I believe it is a powerful toll that can be customized to any particular task but, not precisely for what I'm looking for, which is a Peak, Average, Leq, SPL logger for analyzing sound systems output behavior.
I will keep looking for other portable solutions more focused to my particular needs.
Thanks again for your help.
