What would you expect this to sound like?
« on: May 20, 2019, 10:46:54 AM »

What would you expect digital processing anomolies like this to sound like, if anything?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw_EpjblFhU

BTW, that first distortion harmonic is only 30dB down from the fundamental.

I have no friggin idea but learned decades ago that signals can sound vastly different than they look on a scope or whatever.

Playing What Does This Sound Like? is a fun and educational game. But what on God's green Earth are we looking at? Some sort of power spectrum? What's the test signal? What's the system-under-test? What, if anything, has it to do with the linked video? -F

Yep, with a tiny amount of pre/post ringing. I suspect we're looking at an impulse response that's been made into an MP3.

Sorry, I guess this forum doesn't do automatic email notifications.

It's an impulse response test signal run through a 24/96 DSP.  I'm not wondering what this signal sounds like but rather what the DSP processing that did this to an impulse response test signal would sound like on actual music.

By pre/post ringing are you thinking of "gibbs" phenomenon...

Appearance caused by scraped off higher harmonics (not ringing).
