That doesn't look real comfortable.  At that point you might as well just run a tap up your arse and attach the swivel base direct

It actually is. All the cheap copies are terrible, but that is so nice to sit on :)

I'd certainly want a road case for one if touring.

Yep, that's all I've ever used.  Browse through dead-case world and find one the right size and sit on it.

Lately as I near 50, I've added a stadium cushion.

Still mostly I stand though, If the back's hurting then I adjust the console height and lean on it occasionally.

Saw these at NAMM 2020 https://www.ergolab.com/recording-studio-chairs-for-engineers-s/1819.htm
Quick web search yields reasonably priced ergo designed chairs/stools.
Maybe try local used via the usual sources, CL, Offerup, Letgo.

That is the aforementioned Stealth Chair.

Once upon a time, way back in tech, I had a chair to sit in at FOH. Then it broke two days later and I never got around to getting a new one.

I really prefer to stand while mixing, but my back is in revolt and I’m not going to survive the 15-18 hour days if I can’t sit during the shows.

Recommend me a chair to sit in while mixing at FOH. Should be study as I’m a big guy. A taller studio or drafting type chair as the console is pretty much at standing height anyway. What do you guys like?

I use an extended height drum throne from Roc N Soc. https://rocnsoc.com/

They have several different types of seats and thrones. You can customize with back rests, arm rests, foot pegs, gas height adjustments, etc...

I've had mine for a few years and it's held up quite well.

I tour with a Herman Miller Aeron chair (drafting height).

I have an Aeron in my home office which comes out for some of the longer corporate gigs. Great back support and I've found nothing more comfortable.

I bought the Sound Seat. I got the MP seat, with flexible back, arms, foot ring and the 270 height (the tallest). It goes up much higher than I would want and goes down to almost normal seat height.

I had it shipped the the venue in Nashville and put it together at the end of my lunch break. Took about 15 minutes.

The only change I had to make was moving the spacers between the seat and the seat mount so the larger spacers are at the front and the seat tilts back instead of forward. Now I don't feel like I'm going to slip out of it.

So far I like it. And it seems really well built and durable. We'll see how long it holds up.

Though it’s been 2 years since your reply, I hope my advice will still be relevant. Actually, I’m the kind of guy who’s been sitting all of his life in gaming chairs like this one https://eurekaergonomic.com/gaming-chair-gc-04-pink/. And I’ve always been OK about it. Actually, I always recommend getting such a chair to all my friends, but it doesn’t always work. I have a friend who has the same issue as yours. In short, he likes standing while working, so I advised him about a saddle chair. It’s high enough so you can almost stand while working, and at the same time, your back is relieved. So, I think it’s the most reasonable option for you.

I use the K&M 14047 stool, and like it a lot.  Folds up and goes in a bag as well, so you don't need an extra road case on the truck.  People often remark how comfortable it is.

I have a Mey Chair. Foldable, comfortable and lots of height adjustment.
