Yamaha 02r96 fault
« on: January 08, 2020, 03:38:47 pm »

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can help. Got my 02R96 V2 out of it's box today after not using it for some time. It was working fine the last time I used it, but today it's acting kinda strange.

Screen comes on when powered up and it looks like it's running through it's boot routine. Screen is glitchy, plus when the loading bar reaches the end I get the following message:

ASSERT: file xmalloc.c line 269

Have googled it, but no hits.

Anyone seen this before??

Many thanks,

O.

PS: I tried to reinstall the firmware and it seemed to load OK. No errors shown by the PC or desk.

Does it have a battery going bad?

Thanks for getting back to me Dave.

I thought the battery only handled recall memory? I'll swap it out and see what happens.

Have you tried calling Yamaha support in your region?

Sounds like a hardware problem.   Call Yamaha.

Thanks for the replies.

it's not the battery - put a fresh one in and it's the same.

it's going on the bench today. I've been in touch with Yamaha and their nearest service centre is several hundred miles away.

I've found a more local pro-audio service centre that will check for obvious faults (power, component failure etc). I have a feeling the CPU board is faulty ( ???). I've seen other mention that the ROM chips sometimes become unseated with age, but we'll see what the tech comes back with.

Thanks again,

O.
