Audix MicroD
« on: January 02, 2020, 06:28:19 PM »

Looking for opinions on the Audix MicroD mini condenser.  I have the opportunity to buy two for pretty cheap and was thinking of using them on congas or horns (trombone/sax). They have been around a long time and I have never seen/heard any in the wild which makes me question the live application. Any comments are appreciated.

I have some that I use on rack toms and toys.

I like them.

I have qty 4 with the DVICE clamps and shock mount in my box that rarely see the light of day. I found these to be more a challenge to dial in a kit mix in the wedge versus other options, and IME, the Beta98 is far away preferred by most BE/ME and musos where a small clip-on condenser is required/requested.
Particularly for congas I was not impressed, and once tried on a trombone to utter disappointment.
FWIW, an Audix D2 can and does cover the aforementioned pleasingly well, for myself and others reaching in my box.

Would you say this is due to the "tilted" frequency response?

With little doubt, yes.
