The new Earthworks M23R
« on: January 01, 2020, 10:15:59 PM »

Anyone try the new Earthworks M23R yet?

I know it's brand new but Earthworks makes them out to be able to match any group of two or more no matter when they are purchased.

Worth the extra $100 over the regular M23?

I just got off the phone with Craig Breckenridge over at Earthworks. Essentially, it's a blueprinted mic so all mics will be within 0.5dB of each other and can get to 0.1dB with a calibration file.

Designed so that you can add more mics to your measurement kit later without having to send a mic back to Earthworks to have a matching one built.

Do you believe you will need to expand your measurement system to add additional mics ?

Doesn't everyone?

Ultimately, I'd like to have 6 measurement mics. Probably acquired in groups of 2.

Good lord, hope you sold them some HHa's so they could use the Venue in production, as well.

Depending on the size of the room, I like to use 8 mics or so.

It allows you to look at a large portion of the room without having to move the mics around.

For wired measurements I use the M23s (M30s in the shop).  For wireless rooms (stadiums etc) I use  a Mipro system that does not have companding.
