2 way radio reccomendation
« on: December 03, 2019, 08:23:51 AM »

 Hello everyone,

I am looking for three 2 way radios in a theater install for use between front of house and backstage. The maximum distance between the users will be 200'. The major obstructions between the users are a concrete proscenium wall and upstage concrete wall.  We have been using big box store FRS radios that work well but only last a few years. We use about 15 channels of wireless mics and in-ears. The wireless mics are in the J50 and G50 range and the soon to be in-ears will be in the X55 range.

Before I purchase the same type of radios from a big box store, are there more durable radios around the $100 each price point?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

If you're ok with digital (and the inherent latency), you can pick up some used Motorola DTR550 or 650s. Durable, professional, huge range and features. New they would be out of your price range.
Here's too much information on my experiences with them.

Thanks Andrew, these radios are exactly what I am looking for.

I think I'm going to increase the budget and get the new version of these radios, the DTR600.
