Chauvet Obey 40 and audio control with midi to select chases?
« on: November 22, 2019, 06:42:11 AM »

Hi

I am new here, and I have a question I have been researching high-and-low by googling, searching, watching youtube videos, reading manuals, etc. And for no product have I found conclusive answer if what I want to do is possible. Now I am asking about the Chauvet Obey 40 as I have a line on one of those so I am cosidering this.

What I want to do is simple:

  • Set up the Chauvet to run in audio/music mode so changes are triggered by sound
  • Use midi to switch between the different chases while remaining in audio/music mode

Does anyone know if this is possible?

I can't answer #2, but #1 is: Yes, you can set it to run a chase via audio. It will use the board's internal mic, and there is no sensitivity setting. There is no audio input for sound activation, just the mic.

    • Use midi to switch between the different chases while remaining in audio/music mode

Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Hi
On page 29 of the manual it states ‘It is possible to use all four playback types at once’.
I use midi to trigger my ADJ DMX Operator 1 (from a Yamaha MFC10). The desk is in manual mode and I change scenes with the foot controller.
Regarding audio or music sync, I use the light’s onboard audio activation modes rather than the ‘music’ function on the DMX desk.
I also have a redundant Transcension SceneSetter 1224 and the audio is switchable via midi with was useful.
Ideally you want to have the Obey 40 in manual mode with audio on. Midi note messages should still be recognized.
    Hope this helps.
