midi controller for dmxis 'song' selection
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:42:22 PM »

I'm thinking of diving into dmxis, and I've already got a midi foot controller to do stuff like black out, scene selection within a song, etc..

I'm going to be controlling it from stage as we don't have a lighting guy yet...

the issue is that our set lists change and many times we call audibles...

I'm looking for some kind of pad controller or something that I can use with taped labels of our song names... I need room for at least 30 songs (although more would be perfect)... having them in multiple banks is fine...  I can select the bank and then the input... doing this on a foot controller seems like it would be a major pita for me, that's why I'm looking for pad or button controller in addition to the foot controller...

does anybody know if this can be done?

Thanks in advance!

You could get a small midi keyboard, set it to channel 15 and use the keys to select the songs(banks).

Maybe you could put pieces of masking tape on the keys to name the songs?

Cheers,
Frank

never thought of that, not only cheap (free in my case), but would work PERFECTLY, and I even have one to try it out with.

Instead of the masking tape, i'm gonna use a ptouch, much more readable than my chicken scratch.

Thank you very much!

For the longest time, people around the office would send out an email "where's the P-touch" and I would wonder what the hell is that - sounds dirty.  Ahh, a label maker!!!
