The reason for not tying the neutrals together at the load end is because, unless they are very closely matched in resistance, any imbalance in resistance will result in a current imbalance, which could result in one of the neutrals being overloaded.

And, in a camlock setup, if one of the neutral cams should become disconnected, the other neutral could be overloaded.
